With that being said, why do companies alienate their core fanbase to appeal to SJWs? What is the main goal? I understand us «PC» looks good on paper and might get you some free publicity but at the end of the day you lost half your original fanbase and now gained SJWs who don’t buy.

Now let’s reverse. Why do companies give into SJW «boycotts? So when they threaten to boycott a game if you don’t censor why do game developers cave into pressure and censor their games? If they had no intention of buying the game, then the boycott is pointless. I’ve seen countless game devs not give into the demands of SJW boycotts and they lose practically.

I do not use the term ‘SJW’ as it is too pejorative. Funny enough, ‘Neoliberal’ has the same problem: describing such people according to the ideas they profess is xtill pejorative and often recieved as an insult, which should tell you something about those ideas. I first encountered ‘those people’ when doing disability rights campaigning almost ten years ago and I have some observations which conflict with the OP’s interpretation of. Number one: That ‘those people’ are anti-Capitalist.

They are recreational activists. They don’t believe in. With that comes the realisation that journalists don’t care about your issue; they have a quota to fill and they aren’t too interested in details.

They also are never there for the boring stuff, raising money, writing to policy-makers and legislators, asking other stakeholders what they think, listening for many more hours than you are talking. They want to be seen to be doing. They are also overrepresented by privilege. Their obsession with it reflects their inability to accept their real advantages over others, so they have to move the focus to race, gender, sexuality and occasionally disability but they lack any in-depth understanding of it.

This is to avoid having to address meat-and-bones issues like class, socio-economic status which has a far greater impact on life outcomes, but they don’t have to worry.

They don’t care about it and have a lot to lose from the rolling-back of Capitalism, but theirs is a world-view which is of zero threat to Capitalism in the first place. They get to have their cake and eat it: perpetual revolutionaries fighting for something that will never happen and if it did, they would be among the first on the chopping-block as children of real privilege.

Number two: That companies have nothing to gain by pandering to ‘those people’. They and their world-view are no threat to Capitalism. So Capitalism is no threat to. The building blocks of modern Capitalism, the incorporated legal entity, are near-infinitely flexible. How is EA still around but many of it’s studios are not? The company constantly makes bad choices but survives and manages to keep share-holders if not happy, then not discontented enough to take their money.

They can afford to lose vast swathes tsill customers permanently and not monwy. It’s not about keeping a lot of people sweet, but the right people. Everyone else is disposable. The fastest growing market in iw is microtransactions and it doesn’t require a lot of people, just a few ‘whales’ funnelling all their money in.

As long as ‘professional’ game reviewers keep giving ridiculously high-scores and praise to broken or mediocre games, the companies will do fine so they make sure that stays in place and that means pandering to ‘those people’ who write how is ea still making money reviews even though we know by now many of them aren’t even gamers and some don’t even like how is ea still making money but keep trying to make ‘interactive journeys’ a thing.
